IS IT A MAN? IS IT A MACHINE? IS IT A STAGE? Is it an UNGODLY display of a mechanical MASTERWORK? Or, is it an brilliant engineer’s greatest work? Or is it a TALL TALE come to LIFE?

The exhibitors of this incredible display do not pretend to assert what it is; they have named it the Beats Méchanique because this is the universal exclamation of all who have seen it. Its features, hands, and the upper portion of its “body” are to all appearances human: the lower portions appear to be made up of gears! It is entirely surrounded by a layer of steam that appears to be coming out of the machine itself. IT IS LIKE NO OTHER CONTRAPTION KNOWN TO MEN, that we have seen. Beats Méchanique is decidedly the most extraordinary sight that ever astonished the world.
